01 From the perspective of the output value of China's medical device industry in the past five years
China's medical device industry has developed rapidly, with a growth rate of 10%-15% in medical device output value over the past five years. In 2020, the output value increased by 40.8% compared to 2019, and profits increased by 91.9% compared to 2019; in 2021, the total output value reached 677.11 billion yuan, an increase of 4.7% compared to 2020, while the total profit amounted to 107.97 billion yuan, a decrease of 4.4% compared to 2020; in 2022, the scale of China's medical device market is expected to reach 958.2 billion yuan (RMB), with a compound annual growth rate of about 17.5% over the past seven years, making it the second largest market in the world after the United States; in 2023, the expected output value is 1.3 trillion yuan, and the industry scale remains the second largest in the world.
02 From the perspective of the number of medical device manufacturing enterprises in China
As of December 2023, the number of medical device manufacturing enterprises in China has reached over 36,675, which is 2.24 times that of 2018; as of January 2023, the total number of medical device operating enterprises is nearly 1.365 million, a year-on-year increase of 3.12%.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global demand for anti-epidemic medical device products has surged, and the overall scale of China's medical device imports and exports has improved significantly compared to before the pandemic.
